The method of claim 2, wherein the coil encircles the mesa. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of depositing or mounting a coil adjacent the mesa. A method of integrating an optical assembly into a slider, comprising the steps of: (a) forming a substantially transparent slider having a void in a top surface thereof (b) installing a partial solid immersion lens into the void (c) placing an objective lens on or near the top surface of the slider and (d) forming a mesa that extends from a bottom surface of the slider such that the slider, the partial solid immersion lens, the objective lens, and the mesa maintain a fixed relationship with respect to each other. The multi-tasking interface functions of each of the plurality of processor units communicate among one another via the network bus. The multi-tasking interface function is responsive to control messages for selecting for execution functions of the predetermined peer-level facility and that is responsive to the predetermined peer-level facility for providing control messages to request or to respond to the performance of functions of another peer-level facility of the computer system. Each of the processor units includes a central processor and the stored program that, upon execution, provides for the implementation of a predetermined peer-level facility of the predetermined set of peer-level facilities, and for performing a multi-tasking interface function. The computer system includes a plurality of processor units for implementing a predetermined set of peer-level facilities wherein each peer-level facility includes a plurality of related functions and a communications bus for interconnecting the processor units. This is achieved in a computer system employing a multiple facility operating system architecture. The method of claim 1, further comprising modifying the identifiers in the database in the implantable medical device system to indicate the detection of safety alert information for the component corresponding to the identifier. The method of claim 1, wherein storing one or more identifiers comprises storing a plurality of identifiers in the data structure, the identifiers identifying a plurality of components in the implantable medical device system. A diagnostic method for use with an implantable medical device system having one or more components, the method comprising: storing one or more identifiers in a data structure within the implantable medical device system, the identifiers comprising data identifying at least one of the one or more components in the implantable medical device system storing safety alert information in a memory within an external programmer transmitting one of the identifier data and the safety alert information between the implantable medical device system and the external programmer comparing the identifier data with the received safety alert information to determine if one or more identifiers are related to the safety alert information and notifying a user of relevant safety alert information upon determining that one or more of the identifiers is related to the safety alert information.
